Located in the South Australian Mallee town of Pinnaroo, Ingrid’s Lavender Cottage is a web-based business that produces wholesale products from their bees and lavender.
Steven, Ingrid’s husband, is apiarist. Living in the Mallee, this is his first working environment, next to the Banksia and the Riverland (for orange blossom) to harvest healthy honey.
Lavender has provided beneficial essential oil for hygiene and general body well-being for centuries. Interest in natural products made us establish the Lavender Cottage, in which we hope to share the benefits with the wider community.
Drawing on a love for natural wholesome foods and natural body care products, the business range includes honey, lavender products, as well as some crafty gifts like beeswax candles, lavender sachets.
About Bees & Honey
Bees have been cultivated since the dawn of time, supplying mankind with honey and beeswax. Honey for its natural sugars, and beeswax for candles to provide light.
Honey is the carbohydrate part of the bees diet, in turn honey is an excellent source of carbohydrate for us. Fructose and laevulose are two main sugars, both simple sugars that are easily taken into the bloodstream, giving a natural boost of energy. Honey has other enzymes that have benefits for the human body.
Honey has antiseptic properties that add to the repair of skin when wounded. Apply the honey to the wound or burn and cover with a bandage. The only germs that can live in honey for longer than 72 hours are bee disease causing germs.
People of all ages enjoy eating honey because it is sweet and yummy !
Every plant has its own unique honey, flavour colour and clarity. Speed of crystallisation varies according to the plant source as well. Some candy in a few days but most take a few months, even some Eucalyptus take up to 2 years to candy. To liquefy honey again after crystallisation, simply place the container in hot water not above 60 degrees Celsius until melted. Don’t boil as this will destroy the healthy benefits.
We aim to supply local Mallee honey, orange blossom and lavender infused honey, all unique and pleasant to the consumer. Mallee honey gives that amber colour and the traditional Eucalyptus flavour. Orange blossom is light amber honey, with the flavour of the orange blossom going right through the honey. It is a great choice for people who like a lighter more scented honey. Lavender infused honey is the new flavour we are looking to. It is also a light coloured honey, with a sweet pinch of lavender flavour.
Beeswax has been used for thousand of years to make candles for light. Our candles are 100 % pure and not coloured beeswax. Beeswax burns brighter and longer than other candles. We make dining candles and crafty ones in animal and other shapes.
